Clary sage oil is extracted by steam distillation from the flowering tops and the leaves of Salvia sclarea. It is native to southern Europe and is cultivated for its oil in France and Russia. In the middle ages, clary sage was known as Oculus Christi, which meant 'the eye of Christ’, and was a highly-esteemed medicine.

Clary sage has been an important and useful oil natural medicine and in aromatherapy. The greatest benefit is its calming influence on the nerves and is particularly useful for female conditions and symptoms associated with menopause. It is also known as an aphrodisiac. Clary Sage essential oil is very relaxing to both mind and body.  With a calming influence on the nerves, Clary sage is a valuable oil for relieving tension, stress and general aches.

Fennel essential oil is extracted from the crushed seeds by steam distillation. It was a popular herb used by the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, and Romans, who believed that fennel helped give longer life, and improved a person's courage, strength and resolve.

The oil, like the seeds, is good for digestion and said to be good for constipation and the relief of nausea.  It has a cleansing and toning effect on the skin, and is used in aromatherapy to treat oily skin, wrinkles, cellulite and obesity. Its diuretic effect is believed to help disperse cellulite. It is also said to aid weight loss by promoting feelings of satiety.  Promotes calm and resolve when feeling overwhelmed.

Orange oil is extracted from Citrus Sinensis by cold pressing the fruit peel. The orange tree was brought west by Portuguese explorers in the early 16th century. Historically, the peels of oranges have been used in Chinese Medicine for a variety of ailments. They remain a vital part of Chinese medicine.

In aromatherapy, this delightful, fruity, refreshing, Sweet Orange is a staple for invoking a fresh, uplifting and invigorating atmosphere. It is a popular oil used in blends intended to help relieve feelings of anxiety and stress as it is believed to have a naturally uplifting effect on the senses. Sweet Orange is frequently used in massage treatments to soothe the symptoms of sports injuries, muscular aches and joint discomfort, and is an overall, refreshing tonic for the skin.

Patchouli oil is extracted by steam distillation from the dried, fermented leaves of the Pogostemon cablin plant. In eastern countries, patchouli oil is used for fragrance and to deter insects.

This oil improves its fragrance and power with age, and is said to have a balancing effect on the emotions. It creates a relaxed atmosphere to ease anxiety and negativity.  It is much valued in skin care, especially in scar healing, and is said to have excellent tissue regenerating properties.  Patchouli Essential Oil has calming and grounding properties. Spiritually, it has been used alone or in blends during prayer and meditation. Due to its balancing and calming effect on the emotions, Patchouli oil and is considered helpful for fatigue and anxiety. It is also considered to have aphrodisiac properties.

  • Diffuse for mental clarity, relaxation and restful sleep.

  • Massage after blending for soothing relaxation.  Massage into feet to relieve insomnia. Soothes skin.

  • Apply diluted to the brow for clarity prior to mediation or contemplation, or to the abdomen for menstrual discomfort.

  • Add to bathwater with chamomile for relaxation and destressing.

  • Blends well with Lavender, Geranium, Frankincense, Lemon, Ylang Ylang.


  • Diffuse for a heart-warming aromatic effect, to promote courage, strength and confidence.

  • Massage after blending for comfort, strength and vitality. Stimulating to digestive and circulatory systems.

  • Apply diluted to the bottom of the feet for digestion. Inhale for courage and resolution.

  • Blends well with Clary Sage, Cinnamon, Frankincense, Geranium, Ginger, Lavender, Lemongrass, Cedarwood, Orange, Lavender.

 Do not ingest Lily & Loaf Essential Oils. Never use undiluted.

  • Massage or topical add 3-5 drops per 10ml of carrier oil.

  • Vaporiser add 4-5 drops to cold water in a vaporiser.

  • Inhalation add 2-3 drops to hot water, inhale vapour through nose.

  • Bathing add 5-10 drops to water or carrier oil, stir into bathwater. 

Cautions Possible skin sensitivity - may cause skin sensitising or irritation. When applying citrus oils do not expose skin to direct sunlight or UV light for 72 hours. External use only. Do not use undiluted on the skin. Avoid contact with eyes, ears, mucus membranes, and sensitive areas. If you are pregnant, nursing, or using prescription medication, consult your Doctor or qualified health care practitioner before using essential oils.
