Lemongrass essential oil is extracted from Cymbopogon flexuosus, also known as 'oil grass', from the fresh or partly-dried leaves by steam distillation. It is also known as Indian Verbena or Indian Melissa oil and is used in Ayurveda, the ancient traditional art of healing.

Lemongrass contains citral which provides the main flavour in lemon peel, which is said to help fight fatigue, and refresh a tired body and mind. Lemongrass oil is believed to relieve nervous exhaustion, jet lag, tension, headaches, and stress, and helps to tone muscles and tissue, hence relieving muscle discomfort.  Like citronella it can be used to repel insects and mosquitos, and is also a fragrant way of keeping a pet free of fleas and ticks.

Marjoram essential oil is steam distilled from the Origanum majorana, which is native to Mediterranean regions. It is known to have been used by herbalists since ancient Greece, where they crowned bridal couples with wreaths of marjoram to symbolize love, honour and happiness. The ancient Greeks cultivated it for culinary and medicinal purposes as well as for its aroma.

Marjoram has a calming effect on the nervous system, relieves anxiety and stress, and can help with relaxation and restful sleep. This oil is said to be effective as an antiseptic and expectorant for the respiratory tract, and can be useful to relieve cold symptoms and congestion. Spanish marjoram oil is commonly used in aromatherapy and blends well with lavender and bergamot oils for creating a relaxing environment.

Peppermint oil is steam distilled from the fresh leaves of Mentha piperita. Discoveries prove that peppermint has been used since ancient times in Egypt, Greece and Rome, to crown the Greeks and Romans, and has been used medicinally in England for centuries.

The minty-fresh fragrance of Peppermint essential oil is universally recognised and appreciated. Inhaling a few drops on a tissue is reviving, and is an aid to concentration. This is also useful for clearing sinuses, travel sickness and jet lag. Peppermint offers cooling and relaxing properties, with a familiar, sweet, cool aroma that seems to penetrate airways, helping to clear and soothe. In aromatherapy it is used to help focus, and increase concentration, relaxing and calming a busy, stressed mind.
